Start Scuba Diving - SSI Open Water Diver
Are you ready to Learn to Dive?
The SSI Open Water Diver Course is an entry level diving qualification which once completed allows you to dive to depths of 18 metres and above. It is recognized worldwide, so your diving experiences will be limitless. The course consists of three core elements.
Academics - you will begin with home study by working your way through the online manual and completing the section reviews. During your course we will hold academic workshops where we will expand on the material you have read, give you the opportunity to ask questions and check understanding before you take the Open Water Diver Exam.
Confined Water Sessions - these are conducted in a heated local pool. In the confined water sessions we will introduce you to the skills you need to become a diver. Once you have been introduced to a new skill you will be given the chance to review and practice these skills in the pool.
Open Water Dives - having completed the Academics and Confined Water sessions you are ready to put your skills and knowledge into practice in a series of Open Water Dives. These four dives are conducted over two consecutive days. We try to conduct Open Water training at Selsey, but weather and conditions do need to be right, so in the event we can not dive here we will use an inland site.

Can I complete my Open Water Dives at another centre?
You may be want to complete your Open Water Dives whilst on a holiday as opposed to here - this is called an Open Water Referral. You complete the academics and confined water portions of your training with us and we then issue you with a referral for your destination Dive Centre. On arrival you can then complete your Open Water training dives. This has the advantage that you do not spend all your holiday studying and have more time to enjoy the diving!!!
